• Sparta was an oligarchy it had two Kings, five Ephors (elected leaders), and a counsel made of men over sixty (Gerousia), and an assembly called the Apella.
• Sparta was a military state.
• It was also mostly state controlled with very little freedom.
• The Spartans had the best military for a long time and were almost unbeatable.
• They relied on constant military campaigns to sustain their economy.
